Marine Night

Thursday night is Yeti night. Within Yeti theres a group of lads known as the 'Marines', for those of you that have been to any district event there the ones in camaflauge gear, face paint and probably singing! Some say there quite intense. Last year two of them ran a 'Marine Night' for us at the Lesiure Lakes in Mere Brow, doing lots of running, PT, stress positions in the lake and wrestling. All in Febuary, suffice to say it was a bit chilly!

Despite it only being November and not Febuary it was still bloody freezing, I left the house with shorts on and got 100m down the road before turning around and changing to pants. Instead of going to the lesiure lakes we did the evening down on the cricket field, we all reckoned we woulden't be getting wet with the lack of lakes and all however we were wrong, Johnny has been and bought several hundred litres of water in industrial sized bottles! We kicked off with him marching us up and down the field, which progressed into running, if people didn't keep up the whole team were forced to do press-ups. Everything got steadily more intensive as the evening went on and a few people started to drop out.

Johnny had adopted the policy that if one person failed a task the whole team would suffer, you can imagine my horror when faced with teh challenge of doing 20 pull-ups! After sinking too low on the 12th I had to give up and watch everybody do 5 press-ups. Quite a fun element of the evening was playing some rugby, by 'marine' rules... which were alikened to 'prison' rules which everybody now realises means no rules at all, very physical, very fun. After that everyone was getting pretty knackered however Johnny kept pusshing us harder, especially myself, Tom and Caleb (All of of at the top end of the unit and quite fit)..... we were beginning to feel asif we were getting singled out. This was confirmed after we were made to run laps of the field in between press-ups and sit-ups and being doused in freezing cold water. The wind was cutting through our soaking clothes and we were absolutely freezing when Johnny annouced the final activity which was to wrestle each other to the floor. I was against Tom, which was pretty difficult as in my opinon we were both pretty evenely matched, after a few minutes I managed to gain the upper hand and pin him on the floor.

After this final activity we made our was back to the scout hut along the lane, however Johnny had one more surpirse for me, Tom and Caleb, forcing to sprint between lamposts and then do ten press-ups, the last one to complete it had to do it again. Tom gained the upper hand on this beating me to posts a few times forcing me to run more laps. The three of us got back to scout hut eventually, and collapsed into heaps on the floor. Everybody smiling though. Superb evening had by all I think!
